The journalctl command yields nothing on subsequent boots as, naturally, no logs are saved from the erroneous boot. From my searching, this error usually occurs when fstab contains incorrect uuids. It successfully wipes the UUID and the MAC address of the VM image generated before the VM started for the first time, where they will be newly randomly generated. If I didn&#39;t wipe them, then when I spin up 2 guest VMs, they share the /etc/machine-id which is problematic. Wiping them, I can confirm that the UUID, MAC address, and /etc/machine-id are all unique. </p> <p>Despite that, they are issued the same IP address. Any ideas why? Ideally I can give them static IP addresses in the XML config but it&#39;s not supported for QEMU. My latest arch install was done with archinstall and the filesystem for my root partition is BTRFS.</p> <p>Is it the way archinstall configures encryption that makes it slow to unlock at boot? That is, I&#39;d like to see in pulseaudio two independent sources getting their sound from this one mic.</p> <p>My use-case is that I often have two conversations at the same time (one in Discord and another in Messenger), and I don&#39;t want people from one conversation hearing what I say in the second conversation. By having two logical mics, I would be able to mute the mic from one conversation when I&#39;m speaking in the other. I&#39;d like a system-level mute so I&#39;m not depending on the application</p> <p>Is this at all possible ? I also use i3wm on xorg. Something like every two days my built-in screen display goes black without any warning. Even backlight turns off. Everything else still runs and works. Then when I connect back to battery and display works for another 2 days.</p> <p>What is happening? How can I diagnose it? I forgot I only configured snapshots for my <a href="https://forum.endeavouros.com/u/root">@root</a> directory (dumb of me in retrospect). My @home is empty in all snapshots.</li> <li>I reboot to a liveUSB (now).</li> </ul> <p>I looked through my files in my home directory, and found:</p> <ul> <li>All files in folders controlled by me (ex. ~/* excluding dotfolders and Desktop, Downloads, etc.) were left untouched</li> <li>Some dotfiles and folders present on my initial install in ~/.config and ~/.local/share were modified at <strong>12:17pm</strong>. Based on my fish_history, the last commands made were ones I did a while ago (6+ months) when I configured snapper.</li> <li>Some dotfolders and files were left untouched, like those not on my system when I configured snapper. All KDE dotfiles in .config were “reset.” However, those in .local/kde were left alone.</li> <li>As of now it appears my @/ folder was left 100% alone, except for files that interact with dotfiles in the home user folder.</li> </ul> <p>Is there any way to debug this issue, and see why these files were wiped? I doubt it is snapper, but I threw the log on here just in case. But personally I like it to look clean, and for there to be as little as possible before I reach the desktop, also with autologin enabled, just for OCD reasons I suppose. I use an NVME SSD on Asrock b450m Pro4 motherboard and the combination isn&#39;t lighting fast but sufficient enough for a 6 year old computer. Using the methods described on the wiki <a href="https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Silent_boot">here</a>, these are the kernel parameters I use to achieve a &quot;silent boot&quot; on my system with Arch GNOME Wayland and GDM and GRUB: <code>loglevel=0 udev.log_level=0 vt.global_cursor_default=0 console=tty2</code>. And I also set <code>GRUB_TIMEOUT=0</code>. By using this method, the only text I see when booting after Asrock splash screen is a simple and very fast &quot;Booting Arch Linux&quot; followed by one or two flashes of black for about 3 seconds, varying depending on if I use xorg or Wayland. It&#39;s fine, but I know it could be better. systemd-analyze doesn&#39;t show me anything out of order and I don&#39;t have many services running, so I&#39;m wondering where else I could cut some corners for boot time.</p> <p>Before doing the above method I recall Arch showing me several screens with several methods including something along the lines of &quot;Starting Arch systemd version 252 /dev/nvme etc etc&quot; and a couple of other systemD messages, and it also &quot;flashed black&quot; a few more times as well. Are there any other methods of increasing boot time or &quot;smoothing&quot; the process out that I&#39;m unaware of? Where can I explore how to achieve this on Arch? I believe they use CLR Boot Manager, personally I&#39;m only familiar with grub &amp; systemd-boot.</p> <p>The biggest jump in boot time I&#39;ve experienced of course was switching from HDD to SSD. Everything at least 3 times faster. There was another slight increase when switching to NVME, but not as significant as HDD &gt; SSD. And of course disabling Fast Boot option in UEFI that&#39;s on by default for Windows-based machines. Anyway I&#39;m curious, what&#39;s your boot time? I know it&#39;s an arbitrary thing really but it just interests me. Especially if I have something like <code>picom</code> running, in random situations the computer would lock up.</p> <p>checking <code>dmesg</code> shows something similar to this: <code> [drm:amdgpu_cs_ioctl [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Failed to initialize parser -125! </code></p> <p>Not running <code>picom</code> moved the issue from a problem (daily occurrence) to a nuisance (maybe once a week if running 24/7).</p> <p>I&#39;ve tried all the solutions I&#39;ve found around (switching drivers, downgrading mesa, switching to git versions,...) and none worked. If this sounds familiar keep reading.</p> <p>If you are having this issue, it&#39;s likely that your GPU is resetting, and <code>xorg</code> (or <code>wayland</code> AFAIK) can&#39;t overcome this. Your best bet is to try to figure out how to avoid those resets, but the problem is that there&#39;s no easy way to play with the gpu parameters from arch (that I&#39;ve been able to find). </p> <p>I have a dual boot setup because of my work, so I booted Windows and played with the Catalyst software, <em>undervolting seems to be the main issue for stability</em>, but my GPU was unstable <em>from stock</em>. Network was recovering back after a minute or two (still no logs are being recorded). I&#39;ve tried different solutions regarding this card (disabling bluetooth, changing 5Ghz channels, disabling power management, changing iwlwifi firmware files) - no success. Temporary solution was to reconnect to my wireless SSID.</p> <p>Last option that I tried, was to change backend to <code>iwd</code>. And viola! The time has come to upgrade to Windows 11 which seems to require secure boot to receive updates properly.</p> <p>It seems that I could just disable secure boot every time I want to boot into arch but I really don&#39;t want to do that 1-2 times a day.</p> <p>Now I got lost in the <a href="https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface/Secure_Boot">UEFI secure boot wiki page</a>. If I understand section <a href="https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface/Secure_Boot#sbctl">5.1 (sbctl)</a> correctly, I would just enable secure boot, execute the commands stated there and be able to boot my arch kernel via systemd-boot as well as my windows 11 install since <code>sbctl enroll-keys -m</code> would also enroll the keys issued by MS? Are those static? No need to download them from my BIOS?</p> <p>The steps mentioned in section <a href="https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface/Secure_Boot#Implementing_Secure_Boot">3</a> are more or less the manual way of doing what sbctl is doing right? The pacman hook would then re-sign everything when updating. Do I need to worry about Windows updates breaking things? If I understand secure boot correctly, no one can alter the enrolled keys as long as I don&#39;t go into &quot;secure boot setup mode&quot; in the BIOS setup again, right?
