If you're looking for new OSs to try or updates to my previous releases, you'll be happy to know that I just released the latest Raspbian Buster OS for Atomic Pi as a long overdue update to the previous devbuild for it that was broken. I've also just released two new ChromeOS builds, one fully working and ready for anyone to use, and one that's almost completely working but has a minor issue, both are available to download whether you want something to use right away or one to fix if you think you can fix it before I do. The new releases are labeled as Official ChromeOS v1.1 and Official ChromeOS v1.0. Both now include Play Store, Linux Beta, and all other standard ChromeOS apps! I've been working on adding more mirrors all around the world to improve download speed for people who may not have the greatest ISP due to peering issues. I've also been trying to make a MacOS build for the Atomic Pi, which I don't think will be successful due to the CPU, however it's still on my to-do list when I have time and to me, seems possible. You can already run MacOS using the Virtualization OS on my site. As for Windows, for now I don't plan to update Windows images to 21H1 as it doesn't have anything worth using, it's essentially just bloat, (if you want this, just install a stock ISO) but depending how things go in the near future, I might release Windows v7 based on 21H1 after all, time will tell. All of those and many more are all available at http://ehxz.tk/atomicpi as well as all old versions, many mirrors, live support, and more for free (though if you appreciate my work, donations are always appreciated too :) ). If anyone has more OS suggestions or board support requests (x86 only at the moment), feel free to leave them in the comments, PM, or preferably in the support Discord server linked on my Atomic Pi page.

   submitted by /u/ELECTROHAXZ
[link] [comments]

New OS Releases, Updates, and Future Plans

Hi,

I'm considering an Atomic Pi to replace a PC that is used mostly to run a single windows application, to control a device via serial port (rs232).

Does the Atomic Pi have that kind of support out of the box? Converter current is set to 4 amps. Using 3 x 16 awg wires for the PI's positive & negative connections. Setup is working and has been for a while.

I finally got around to putting the PI in a permanent case and am now looking at better PSU options.

I read that a buck converter isnt the best option due to the possibility of it failing and dumping the full input voltage into the PI. Also read the cheaper ones can be noisy and suffer from voltage drift.

The second idea is an internal caged power supply. Found some cheaper ones rated at 5v 5a such as https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B111B7Y. I know cheaper means questionable quality. Running an AC power cord to the case is not an issue.

Third is an external laptop styled brick that outputs 5v such as a Delta EADP-20NB. Would be easiest & keep heat out of case. Just am afraid due to the long wire length the voltage drop may be an issue.

Was wondering what option would be recommended. Keep the buck converter, a cheap internal caged PSU, or an external brick?

Just am suddenly paranoid about failure. I know its a cheap board to be worried about, but I am tired of breaking & ruining things.

Basically, looking for reliability & best bang for buck. 4 amps seems to be enough but more never does hurt. Machine will be powered on 24/7 idling for 80% of the day. Will have a USB 3 2.5" HDD, Arduino, & USB Sound card always connected. AtomicPi was my primary server for PLEX and Pi-hole. AtomicP2 was a duplicate backup to the primary. The two were rock solid for about 6 months. So solid that I only logged into them about every 3 weeks or so.

A week or so ago, I logged into the primary Pi server and it told me that there were updates to all 3 components and that I should update because I was falling behind on code levels. Instead of ignoring the message, I (like a fool) updated the server. WHICH PROMPTLY STOPPED RUNNING. The update log message was "could not restart DNS".

Without much thought that the UPDATE killed my pi-hole, I began googling for DNS problems. I followed 2 or 3 scripts to restart and reload the DNS server. No go.

Then I did something really stupid, I figured that if I updated to 2204, it would load all the new software needed including DNS and fix my problem. I did the update, but still no good.

I switched my devices to point to AtomicP2 for Pi-hole.

On the pi-hole reddit subgroup I read a mea culpa from pi-hole software team that they caused the problem if the update was run when there was no IP6 support. So I then uninstalled pi-hole and figured I would wait until the update was fixed. Since I had updates the OS to 22.04, I figured I would make sure nothing else was broken.

Well, it turns out that PLEX was also down. I can log into the directory that holds my media files but when I ls the directory i get "Input/Output error".

So I also switched my ROKU devices to point to AtomicP2 for PLEX.

I now have an AtomicPi server that is useless. I have 3 choices -

1-Start from scratch and load AtomicPi with 2204 and the server software and find out what the upgrade breaks besides PLEX.

2-Start from scratch and load AtomicPi with 2004 and the server software and get back to where I was.

3-CLONE AtomicP2 onto AtomicP1, fix up IP addesses and server name and know I I have a functioning system.

I would prefer #3 if I can do it. But everything I read seems to indicate that I cannot clone the entire emmc disk.

Any advice/help to AVOID starting from scratch is appreciated.

Edit - I just found out that some of my homemade scripts no longer fully work under 2204 so I would really not want to do option #1. Evidently some ip commands no longer work under 2204.

   submitted by /u/srtrip451
[link] [comments]

Down a rabbit hole - need some help

Not sure if anyone is handy with hardware troubleshooting.

Is it possible to replace the BIOS chip or emmc on Atomic Pi?

I believe something is wrong with either of these components.

   submitted by /u/palmworks
[link] [comments]

BIOS chip or emmc

Nothing crazy, 1920x1080 each...

   submitted by /u/madmedix
[link] [comments]

Anyone tried dual displays with their API?

<img src="https://preview.redd.it/eg4uve6nyoh91.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=c7e7f86a4ac0b5ed6ccacffb6e13ae832db0811d" alt="New board won't power up. This is particularly annoying because I'm using Obarun Linux with EFIStub (no GRUB/syslinux), so when the boards lose settings, they also lose EFI enrollment, so I have to boot with USB media, mount and chroot my existing install, and redeploy using efibootmgr. I bought three atomic pi units and having gotten past the power requirement with a 2200 uF capacitor across the 5V in I have two other issues I need hints on. Both concern the network stuff. I cannot get the Ethernet port to work. It doesn't turn on, and along with that the WiFi does not turn on. I mean it doesn't show up as a device. Is there a jumper controlling this? Nothing in the Bios. Plus I wish it were not UEFI only. Not sure what to do about that. The image I need to run (a modified Asterisk) isn't available UEFI.

Also, if I connect the USB jumper from CPU board to expansion board, even with two USB ports open only the expansion one works. If I pull that jumper cable only the one on the CPU board works.

Where can I look for getting the net stuff working? I plugged in a RTL USB WiFi adapter and it works but I'd like to use the on board stuff.

Anybody have any advice on these issues?

GeorgeC

   submitted by /u/w2db
[link] [comments]

Problems getting stuff working with atomic pi

POWER:

Just use a regular desktop PSU, the enchilada board accepts molex

USB Hub:

I run my usb 3.0 hub unpowered, because I have seen the Pi not shut down after shutting off the PSU.

OPERATING SYSTEM:

It might sound crazy but Lubuntu seems to work the best for me. Plus it comes with hTop and I'm easily impressed. There are a lot of flavors out there and I've tried basically everything from Kali to Zorin

STORAGE:

Toss a microsd card in there, about 256gb.

PROBLEMS:

Sometimes my eMMC disapears... but because I can find it in KDE Partition Manager (which also comes in Lubuntu) I just have to activate it when I see it's gone missing. Because it disapears, after a few years of passively dealing with it I just dedicate the entire partition to SWAP an turn it on if I notice it has dispeared.

PROJECTS:

The Atomic Pi is a monster with SDR. I can run goes-tools and collect satelite weather data while simultaneously running dump1090 and getting 200 miles of air traffic data. I have a few more dongles and I'm going to see where performace starts to degrade. At some point I also have to power the usb hub due to the SDR dongles heating up quite a bit and eating more current. I plug it in while in usb 2.0 port only. While powered in the usb 3.0 the Pi seems to want to run off that.

I can run a dogecoin full node (uses just about all the available ram and an equal amount of swap). I wouldn't run this as an RPI type server for a mining setup. I would be concerned about verification response times.

Steam games can run, I experimented with hosting dedicated servers and might do some more of that coming soon. Terraria, don't Starve type games. Very low spec hahaha

   submitted by /u/somBeeman
[link] [comments]

I've been testing the Atomic Pi for a few years now

UPDATE: The cable included with my Atomic Pi Developer's Kit was to blame. I am able to get the camera to initialize successfully with
geocam-bin
using the extremely short cable from the I/O board's second USB port.

Hello! I am running vanilla Ubuntu 22.04 on several Atomic Pis. I have one of the camera modules too, but haven't been able to get it running:

At first, it took me a while to get it to enumerate, as shown in
lsusb
and
dmesg
output. I think the cable's connectors had some accumulated oxidization. But this seems resolved now and it reliably enumerates.

I've cloned
geocam-bin
and used its
install.sh
to install the udev rules. But no
/dev/video*
devices appear.

When I manually run the command specified in the udev rules, it outputs:
No Compatible device found.

One thing I noticed is that the
config.json
in the
geocam-bin
repo doesn't match the PID on my actual device. It calls for PID
0x4d53
but my device is
29fe:b00c
. (And the udev rule also specifies
b00c
.) So I wondered if the
mxcam
binary might have the same PID mistake. But of course I can't review its source to find out.

And I tried building and installing the
geocam-v4l2
plugin but no love. Not that I expected it to work without firmware uploading to the device.

Anyone else run into this? Tips? Thank you!

   submitted by /u/chriscombs
[link] [comments]

geocam-bin: "No Compatible device found."

Has anyone figured out how to get the USB 3.0 port on the Atomic Pi to operate in gadget/device mode?

I see the xDCI controller in lspci and that the dwc3_pci module is already connected to it.

I tried the directions on this page:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/638148/use-dwc3-module-to-put-usb-c-port-in-host-mode
But dwc3 already appears to be in device mode.

The Atomic Pi schematic shows that the USB 3.0 port is port 0 on the chip which is the one that's supposed to be USB OTG according to the datasheet. My guess is because the OTG ID pin is grounded on the board, it has an internal mux switched to the xHCI controller. I'm not sure if it would be practical to rewire the ID pin, but shouldn't it be possible to override that from software and not have to modify the board to switch it to device mode? I'm using Xubuntu 22.04.

The use case is the board is going inside a smart 7.1 audio amplifier and the USB is one way to connect it to a PC or other device that supports audio over USB. I initially thought about using a Raspberry Pi Zero for that purpose but it would be nice having it all done by the Atomic Pi to keep things simple. (The HDMI connects to a DSP board that converts the HDMI audio into signals to drive several TI amplifier modules.)

   submitted by /u/NiHaoMike
[link] [comments]

Use USB 3.0 port as OTG/gadget

Has anyone encountered faulty onboard emmc and or microsd card slot?

Here is my problem : No matter what Linux distro that I installed, my atomic pi will not bootable after I unplugged the power for a period of time.
