Such as google, facebook, linkedin, microsoft, amazon, verizon, really any conglomerate that doesn't respect their users.

Whether your looking to be "google free" or just replace a few of the services you use, you'll find help here!

So why do you not trust these companies?

Everyone may have their own reasoning on why they want to de-google. These companies have data-breaches, it's not a matter of who, it's really a when. By minimizing our data footprint and choosing the providers that match with our own beliefs, we can have much better control over our own data. Not everyone will agree with a de-googler, that's okay. Everyone has the right to their own beliefs, we just want to help everyone make an informed decision based upon the evidence and facts presented.

These companies are not concerned with our data, that means we need to take our own action. Here are a few articles just reinforcing we need to be careful with our data.

Senate Demands google CEO answer for hidden nest microphone

Google and Amazon use smart home data to learn daily habits

Smart TV Data Collection

How tech companies deceive you into giving up your data and privacy

Amazon Alexa recording personal conversations

Want more relatable evidence to yourself?

Try installing Noscript addon in your firefox browser and take note of how many websites you visit have scripts for various sites. Ex when you visit old.reddit.com the current scripts on this page are from:

reddit.com

aaxads.com

amazon-adsystem.com

googletagservices.com

redditmedia.com

redditstatic.com

Currently the only two I have approved are reddit.com and redditstatic.com. Just those two out of six let me browse the site and post just fine.

If no script isn't your deal, take a look into PiHole. PiHole is a black-hole for internet ads and tracking. If you set the DNS (Domain Name Service) to each individual device. You will see which devices ping or send data to where. Maybe you'll notice windows pinging microsoft servers more often than needed, or alexa sending data while not in use. Whatever device, as long as you can set pi-hole up, you can set it as the DNS on individual devices or your router.

/r/pihole

https://pi-hole.net

What can I do?

Good news! You made the first step, you're here and researching. You don't need to go all out right away, create a plan. Take it step by step.

In previous posts and the wiki, we have suggested alternatives to services you may use. Don't see it? Make a post and ask the community their opinion!

There are plenty of replacement services out there, it's time to change what we know. Many of the replacement services are even better than what de-googlers once used!

As an example; Some users replace Gmail or Outlook with Fastmail, Protonmail, or Tutanota. Three very good alternatives and each have their own pro's and con's to the services.

The great thing about the technology age is... We have options!

Options for email, phone, social media, news outlets, search engines, cloud storage and just about anything you can think of. It's just a matter of discovering those alternatives which may someday be the mainstream or maybe the past alternative is the up and coming mainstream privacy respecting service/product now.

Don't be afraid to get started or ask questions. We're all here for the same purpose so be kind!

If you have any questions, concerns or opinions regarding /r/degoogleyourlife, just let us know!

Enjoy De-Googling Your Lives!

   submitted by /u/BlueJayMordecai
[link] [comments]

De-googling your life?

hello,

decided to install graphene OS and that only runs on google pixel 5/6+?

seen few guides that mention you have to check if it has custom rom, i thought that this phone with manufacturer settings always comes with custom rom and i could just grab it from retailer?

anyone could advise/confirm?

as there are nice deals in UK at the moment.

thank you

   submitted by /u/raulynukas
[link] [comments]

how do i know if my google pixel 6 is custom rom? If we purchase a new phone and DO NOT sign in to any Google account, doesn't this stop them from identifying and tracking us?

Question 2 about Device Fingerprints On non Degoogled phones, does logging into our Google account WITHIN THE BROWSER identify us? Does the phone device fingerprint connect to the Google account within the browser? Or is this a safe way to say, check Gmail emails without registering the phone with that particular Google account?

Question 3 about Micro G Is it okay to log into Micro G on a Degoogled phone using my real name Google account? Or must we use a separate account that's anonymous to remain private? I'd like to use YouTube vanced and MicroG using my regular Google account because it has all my YouTube playlists and search history saved.

Question 4 about Degoogled phone ROM Does installing a minimal GApps package such as OpenGApps Pico Variant provide any benefits to privacy compared to full GApps? Or is it either all or nothing (minimal Google services still gives them just as much power as full Google Services)?

Question 5 Is it okay to use my personal real name sim card on a Degoogled phone without linking that phone to my identity? Can I swap my sim card back and forth between a non Degoogled phone to one that's been Degoogled (CalyxOS) safely without compromising privacy? I would hope it doesn't matter once Google services is removed from the phone.

   submitted by /u/ascworl
[link] [comments]

Questions about Phone Identity

   submitted by /u/NotErikUden
[link] [comments]

DeGoogle emergency location services and location services in general with (FOSS) alternatives?

I have a google pixel 5. I get this message in "TERMINAL" after pressing enter,
"chmod: ./device-flasher.darwin: No such file or directoryzsh: no such file or directory: ./device-flasher.darwin."

So I drag the flash download and drop it into "TERMINAL" and it says,
" zsh: permission denied: /Users/Mylesomainnian/Desktop/calyxos/device-flasher.darwin"

So the instructions on CalyxOS website are not working and I have no idea how to get CalyxOS up and running on my new Unlocked Google Pixel 5 using my MacBook Pro.

Please help with "TERMINAL" and the flasher and all that jazz.... I wish I could simply have those two downloaded files in a folder like the website advises and then simply double click on the flasher and have it all working like it's supposed to.

   submitted by /u/uimhainnin
[link] [comments]

Problems installing CalyxOS on my Google Pixel 5 with MacBook Pro

We need to feed the Google it's own deeds! If the past few months of this wild year have taught me anything, it is that I need to make sure that I am always informed on the FACTS and to be self-aware. It is time for me to complete the dreaded task of leaving Gmail (after over a decade of use) and finding an email service provider that does not sell its users' emails, data, etc. I referred to the 'r/degoogle' community and searched through the very extensive & amazingly helpful degoogle 'guide,' for lack of a better way to put it... But, I noticed that all of the email service providers listed are foreign. I am not against using an international email service, but is there a reason why there aren't any United States-based email service providers with high security measures and end-to-end encryption? If it's because the services we DO have here in the U.S. are corrupt and sell our information to foreign entities such as China, then that makes me sad but unfortunately, I am not surprised. If there are not any secure email service providers made in the United States, then which email service provider would you recommend and - just briefly - why? Thank you, in advance, to anyone that takes the time to read this and reply! It is very appreciated! This is something that I have been struggling with quite some time now, and I am grateful for any & all input.

   submitted by /u/katherine_fallon317
[link] [comments]

AHHH.
