Welcome to the /r/AMD Q1 2023 PC Build Questions and Tech Support Megathread — if you have any questions about AMD hardware, what hardware to get, general PC queries or tech support problems, please read this thread and post them here.

Please understand that /r/AMD is not a technical support or PC building help subreddit, we are a subreddit to discuss AMD, their products and technologies. /r/AMD is community run and does not represent AMD in any capacity unless specified — as such, there is no guarantee anything posted in this thread will be seen by AMD

If you want to guarantee your issue is seen by AMD employees, please use AMD's official community support forums

If you would like to report an issue with a game, application or some other bug/issue, please use AMD's Bug Report Tool. AMD cannot fix something unless they know it exists and have the information to reproduce it.

The /r/AMD and AMD Red Team Discord servers are also available to ask questions (including build questions, purchase advice and tech support) with other AMD users and PC enthusiasts.

If you are having any issues, including but not limited to; games or programs crashing, blue screens of death, system freezes, data corruption, system shutting down randomly, lower than expected performance or any other weird issues and instability issues please try the following before making a post, the overwhelming majority of problems can be resolved by trying these next steps

Make sure you are running the latest updates for your operating system, games and applications
Scan your PC for any Viruses or Malware using Windows Defender or another reputable Anti-Virus or Anti-Malware solution
Make sure you are running the latest AMD drivers and reinstall them if needed. To reinstall GPU drivers, we recommend using Display Driver Uninstaller to perform a clean installation of the drivers and stop Windows Update overwriting parts of the driver, a guide on using DDU can be found here
If a game is crashing, verify game files/repair the game through Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Connect, EA App (formerly Origin), Battle.net or whatever game client you are using. Tutorials on doing this can be found on YouTube and Google depending on whichever game client you are using
If a program is crashing, reinstall the program or attempt to repair the installation using said program's installer/uninstaller
Make sure you are running the latest BIOS, Firmware and Drivers for your motherboard, laptop or desktop
If you have any overclocks, underclocks, undervolts, custom power curves or similar: revert everything to stock clocks and voltages, this includes disabling XMP/EXPO — just because your system turns on, doesn't make it stable. Many will have unstable overclocks but not realise it until specific conditions are met, e.g. high temps under a certain load, EMI interference, specific game/application that stresses the system harder etc
Stability test your system with the following utilities: OCCT, Prime95, AIDA64, Furmark, MSI Kombustor, MemTest86, MemTest86+, SeaTools — these utilities can also help you narrow down the problem. If you require help using any of these utilities, please use Google and YouTube, as there are a plethora of guides available
If you have a custom built PC, recently upgraded or started overclocking, use a PSU calculator and make sure the PSU you have can output enough power when your system is under load — OuterVision, Cooler Master, Seasonic, FSP, Newegg, be quiet!
If using Windows 10 or Windows 11, use the built-in SFC and DISM commands to check for corrupt operating system files and attempt to repair them, a guide is available here
Try and apply common sense to an issue, for example if you have flickering on your TV/Monitor, try simple things like changing the cable and port you are using. If you've recently installed a mod and now that game crashes, uninstall that mod. If one of your memory modules is no longer being detected, is there any physical damage to the module itself, the DIMM slot on the motherboard or pins, have you tried reinserting it etc
If issues persist, backup any important data and completely reinstall your operating system — we would recommend using the latest ISO image available and doing a clean reinstall with a USB drive.

If you have done all the above steps and are still facing an issue, please follow the below template for submitting a request, the more detail you can include the better. If you post something like 'cod crashes' or you don't list your specifications or what you've tried; don't expect a response, as there's not enough information to go on.

Below is an example template you could use

Summary of issue: Freesync doesn't work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II with Radeon Software Version 22.10.3, however rolling back to the 22.5.1 WHQL release works fine

What I have tried: I have reinstalled 22.10.3 with DDU and reset my in-game graphics settings

System Specifications:

Operating System: Windows 11 22H2, OS Build 22621.963
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, no overclock
GPU: PowerColor AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT Red Devil
Motherboard: MSI MAG B650M MORTAR WIFI with 7D76vA21 BIOS
RAM: 2x16GB DDR5-6000 CL40 with XMP/EXPO settings
PSU: be quiet! 650W Straight Power 11

Finally got my EK Water Block for my AMD Reference 7900 XTX

Junction Temps never seems to exceed 87C Junction Temp (55C GPU Temp), clock averages ~3175MHz or so, set to 3300MHz and 1025mV, below that mV it crashes every few benchmark runs. VRAM at 2766, isn't stable much above that.

~11% increase in Unigine Heaven over stock clocks.

AMD and it's partners to stop supplying of 7900XTX MBA cards?

Just got a mail from a big vendor in Sweden that they will no be able to fullfil my order on a Sapphire 7900XTX MBA card. More people I've talked to has also comfirmed this. They have orderd different MBA card from same or different vendors and wont get their orders.

Anyone else here that is effected by this?

Edit: I order it on december 20th, so seven days after it was released.

6900xt GTA 4 Visual artefacts

[ SOLVED ] : FPS cap/limit was necessary, a higher fps was causing this issue. Setting it to 75 fps seems to solve the problem. For AMD users, the fps limit can also be forced through "Radeon Chill" option, if for some reason the game does not follow the resolution Hz limit, with vsync turned on.

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: AMD Radeon 6900xt 16gb

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x

Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO VDH WIFI

BIOS Version: 7C95v2C

RAM: 32GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB PRO 3600MHZ CL18 dual channel

PSU: ASUS ROG Strix, 80+ Gold, 750W

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 Pro 22h2 22621.1105

GPU Drivers: Recommended + Optional 22.11.2

Chipset Drivers: AMD B550 CHIPSET DRIVERS VERSION 4.11.15.342

Background Applications: None

Two months ago, I got a new video card, 6900xt, and noticed that I get visual artefacts, only in GTA 4.

Since then I tested a various amount of games, updated every driver, tried optional and recommended AMD drivers, and in the end reinstalled Windows 11, concluding that the issue occurs only in GTA IV ( even after Windows reinstall )

I even thought the problem could have been from the power supply, though the artefacts didn't occur in any other games, but I tested the consumption at the outlet and it didn't ever go over 550W - 600W while trying multiple games, including the aforementioned one.

I uploaded a video with the artefacts, maybe this could explain better the issue.

What could be the issue here?

I mostly suppose to be the driver ( would not be surprised as I have issues with hardware acceleration in Brave browser too as well ), and can't understand what is going on in the AMD dev team, and if they are aware of the issues that continuously persist with their drivers, if this is indeed the problem.

Adrenaline GPU fan curve bug... watchout.

Long story short, I did an overclock/undervolt on my 6800xt, using Adrenaline. I set my max fan speed for the card at 45%. Saved my profile, and used that profile with no issue for about a week. Earlier today, I noticed my fps drastically dropping while l was playing a game I never have issues with (the latest sniper elite). Turning on Adrenaline's monitoring software, I saw my temps were above 100⁰. I also noticed that for some reason my fans were set to 15% max speed. I exited the game, reset the profile for the overclock/undervolt to 45% max fan, set it, saved it, and restarted my pc. Upon booting, I immediately checked Adrenaline and my fan speed was at 15%. Everything else was where it had been set/saved. The only way I could get it to stop resetting, was to load a different profile and set it. But now it's a waiting game to see if it happens again. Anyone else have this happen?

Given AMDs claims of ~20% uplift on their first party benchmarks, against a 5800x3d, I'm not expecting good things actually.. Might be wasting my time waiting.

32gb Trident z RGB 3600mhz vs 16gb Neo 3200mhz?

i know the frequency is higher but when i purchased the NEO it said it was designed for AMD. So om not sure if i would be losing performance by going with the 32gb kit thats CL18 vs the NEO thats CL16. any advice? or whats the best programs i can use to test them both? also im running a 5800X and 3070 of that matters lol

Mobo doing a full memory training session with every boot on "OC"ed memory (rated to 6,000MHz), but not at the stock 4,800MHz. Is this normal?

Basically title. I built a brand new rig:- Ryzen 9 7900x- 64G (4x 16G dimms) Trident Z Neo 6,000 cl30 memory- ASUS ROG Strix X670E-A- Sapphire Nitro+ 7900xtx- 1,000 watt Seasonic Platinum PSU- Minty fresh install of Windows, drivers, bios, etc is on the latest version available- other bits and bobs that don't really matter for this discussion like NVMe hard drives, case, tons of case fans, etc....

The weird thing is, when the memory is at its 'base' clock of 4,800MHz, I can boot without doing a full memory training (yellow QLED for ~30s). Whenever I boost the memory to its rated 6,000MHz (either using DOCP or just manually boosting it), it does a full memory training session every single boot. Heck, even if I boost it to only 5,000MHz, it still does the full training on boot. Once it does boot, everything is fine and super stable, but I just can't seem to get it to stay at anything over 4,800MHz without it doing a full memory training session on every boot. Thoughts? Is that normal?

Edit:
Problem solved!
I had to disable memory training in the bios by enabling the "Memory Context Restore" feature (Extreme Tweaker > DRAM Timing Control > Memory Context Restore -> Enabled). Once done, I am booting up at the full 6,000MHz without waiting for a full memory training session and everything is working much better!
